Fairly Basic

I think if I had to pick one word to describe the most important thing to me in clothing, it would be comfort. That's what I was looking for this morning when I pulled out this gray dress. I added some fun touches with a leather belt and sequined shoes and was good to go.  Since this was a fairly basic color palette, I added some super fun teal bird earrings just to mix it up.

This week has just flown by, I'm a little shocked tomorrow is Friday. I'm also really excited because it means we are just 5 days away from our summer trip to Colorado. I am so excited for mountain air and seeing some of my best friends. It's going to be awesome!

Minty Leopard

This outfit combines 3 things I love my accordion pleat skirt, leopard, and mint. It makes me smile and it happens to be the only outfit I've managed to photograph in the last 2 weeks. Life has just been busy, and its been hard to fit the photos in, but I promise I have been getting dressed.

I think May might be the busiest month in Austin. Its light out later, its warm but not terribly hot yet and it seems everyone plans events because its nice and we want to enjoy it before the oppressive heat of summer settles in and no one wants to go outside. I am going to work on figuring out how to fit outfit photos in, I've missed my little blog and I'm sure you've missed the photos of Petunia.

1970

Remember how I said my mama was a thrifting good luck charm? Well this skirt is proof. Based on my research its from the 1970s and I am in love!  Its got the perfect pleats, its a great length, and you can never have enough black skirts. I almost gave it to my mom, but we both felt it needed to find its home in my closet. I also found these great shoes this weekend and I can't think of anything better to wear this skirt with than these fab wedges.

Not only did we find awesome clothes on our thrift adventure, we also found the perfect tray for this project!  I've been wanting a chalkboard in our kitchen forever and was just waiting to find the right tray and obviously, it took my mama's keen eye to help me find it! We actually found 3 perfect trays, so I have a feeling I'll be making a chalkboard for work and for home!

Moves like Audrey

Today one of my coworkers told me I reminder her of Audrey Hepburn, I think it was one of the nicest comments I've ever gotten. I do not believe I in anyway resemble Ms. Hepburn but if I can rock an outfit with the same does of ladylike fabulousness, then that is awesome.
On a totally unrelated note, I would like to formally petition Old Navy to make this top in more colors, asap. It looks way more expensive than it is, and its fits wonderfully and it's thin fabric but not see through. It is pretty much perfect for a Texas summer but right now only comes in leopard or snow leopard. Which is great, but I'd like it in pink, black, blue, green, you get the picture.

We're gearing up for a quite Easter here at the Compton house. I'm going to do a little more gardening, hanging out with the dog, and catching up on my comic book reading which I've been ignoring to that extent that I've got about 4 months of issues backed up. I hope you have a wonderful and restful holiday weekend!

Twins!

You know whats fun? Accidentally dressing like your dog. I did that today, but didn't really notice it until I was editing photos. I am however, totally okay with it, I mean who better to dress like than an adorable little lady? I found this shirt on super clearance at Old Navy over the weekend, I don't remember seeing it when it was full price, but I'm glad I found it, its a fun pattern and a different color for me, so I'm excited to branch out a bit with it next time.

You may have noticed the new photo location. This would be just a small section of this seasons patio garden. What you see here are some of the flowers I planted, our basil plants, jalapenos, and our big 3 year old rosemary. I'm really excited to see how things do this year with a full patio and direct sun, I'm hoping for many delicious home grown veggies in a few months.

My fashion inspiration, Petunia Jean.

Paprika

We're holding interviews in my office this week, so that means lots of dressing a little more professional than normal. Since I don't really own a suit, for me that translates to black with fun accents. Hence, my current go to black skirt and a polka dot blouse. Simple, business appropriate, and still fun.

Does anyone have any favorite recipes involving paprika? My mother-in-law just got back from Budapest and brought us an awesome assortment of paprika. I'd love to find new things to make using it, so if you have a suggestion please share. Hopefully at our next beer tasting, I'll also have something delicious and paprika-y for folks to enjoy!

Swap Skirt

This skirt was my big score from the Texas Style Council Clothing Swap. It came from the lovely Elizabeth at Delightfully Tacky. Its a great length, weight, and color. Plus the awesome buttons make me feel a little bit like I'm in a marching band. There is nothing better than feeling like your one of 76 trombones all day! I paired it with my favorite little birdy blouse and people loved it, apparently I am known around my office for wearing things with cute prints on them. I am totally okay with this!

The weather has been crazy around these parts. We had a super scary thunder storm last night, I can normally sleep though a storm, but last night that was not the case. Thankfully Peter chilled me out and I did manage to get back to sleep. Petunia on the other hand is totally unfazed by big storms. She didn't make a peep and wasn't even annoyed that her yard was wet this morning. She might be tiny but Miss Petunia Jean is very brave, kinda like that toaster, but much cuter!

Confounded by Stripes

I've had this skirt for a while, you've seen its black twin a few times, but it took me a bit to figure out how to style this version. It's full of awesome colors, but they happen to be awesome colors I don't have a lot of, so it sat in my closet staring at me. Then suddenly one day it was like a brick hit my head and I thought, white oxford, classic, in the color pattern of the skirt, and perfect.

This week is basically all just a count down to Friday. Come Friday at 3 I will be in a SXSW TX Style Council state of mind and I cannot wait!! I had a lovely lunch with Julie from Loyal Style on Sunday and talking about fashion and blogs with her for an hour made me ridiculously excited to spend a whole weekend with 250 women who all love this as much as me!

Staff Shirt

Earlier this year we were given staff shirts at work. Most folks have worn them with jeans, but I thought I would find a way to mix it up and make it a bit more fun. Obviously the solution was a skirt and a fun belt. Thankfully I have many brunt orange options and this belt was just perfect.

I got the idea of using this belt from the lovely Melissa at Dear Baby. Not only is her blog awesome, her kids are seriously adorable, and she's super fashionable. If you're not all ready, you need to start reading her blog, asap.

Leap Day!

I was in a bit of a mood this morning, so photos weren't really something I was excited about. But, I'm committed to this little blog, so we took them, cranky face and all. I got this dress over the weekend, I wasn't planing on it, but then my mom told me about this great sale. Well I had to look and what do you know a brown and coral dress in a leopard type print for under $20? You know I couldn't say no to that!

The jean jacket was inspired by my lovely coworker. I spent a good part of Sunday night trying to figure out how to style this dress and was feeling a bit lost. Then I came into work on Monday and my coworker is sitting there with a cute print dress and a jean jacket and a light bulb went off! Thank goodness for stylish coworkers!

Misty Morn

I'd like to thank my awesome little sister for this top. I wasn't going to even try it on, but she talked me into it and then told me the purple was better than the blue. Goodness, having a younger sister is awesome.

It was super misty this morning but thanks to some wicked awesome hair spray my hair looked like I'd lightly placed it in an electric outlet, instead of a total frizzy mess. Thankfully these photos were taken within 3 minutes of walking outside, so the frizz hadn't won yet. Also, sweet little neighbor kitty wanted to be on the blog again and who am I to deny that sweet face?

Canadian Tuxedo

When I came downstairs this morning, Pete commented that I looked very cute in my Canadian Tuxedo. I've never done the denim on denim thing, but it was Friday and we'd had a party the night before and I was still half asleep (see all photos in this post) and so I went for it. I think it made an otherwise crazy busy, but not so exciting, Friday, a bit more interesting.

I added this great vintage necklace and bright red lips to make it a little more work friendly and I think it was just the extra bump the outfit needed to make it a winner. I love adding super girly touches to not so girly outfits. It keeps my coworkers and my husband on their toes, and that's always good.

Meow

When I got dressed this morning, I told Pete this outfit screams "Hi, I have a fashion blog" and for that I love it. I had to make sure teal jeans were work appropriate but once I got the okay, I knew they would be a lovely new addition to my Friday attire.

I love the little cats all over this top, not only does it let you know that I am a cat lady, but the scoop back with the bow helps show off my tattoo quite nicely. I think this feature will be more useful come summer, because today wore the cardigan all day, so no one at work saw the back. I hope you have a lovely weekend, I am off to finish the last book in the Hunger Games trilogy and mentally prepare myself for the bridal shower I'm helping throw on Sunday!
