Twins!

You know whats fun? Accidentally dressing like your dog. I did that today, but didn't really notice it until I was editing photos. I am however, totally okay with it, I mean who better to dress like than an adorable little lady? I found this shirt on super clearance at Old Navy over the weekend, I don't remember seeing it when it was full price, but I'm glad I found it, its a fun pattern and a different color for me, so I'm excited to branch out a bit with it next time.

You may have noticed the new photo location. This would be just a small section of this seasons patio garden. What you see here are some of the flowers I planted, our basil plants, jalapenos, and our big 3 year old rosemary. I'm really excited to see how things do this year with a full patio and direct sun, I'm hoping for many delicious home grown veggies in a few months.

My fashion inspiration, Petunia Jean.

Still time for tights

It was 80 degrees today and this morning for a good 45 minutes I had plans of not wearing tights. But the Colorado girl in me just couldn't do it, late February is too early for bare legs, even with tall boots and socks. So on went the tights and I suddenly felt much better.

Being 80 degrees, today was one of those magical Austin days when I totally love living here. I went to a trailer park for lunch with one of my favorite friends and had delicious Greek hamburgers, then we got super caffeinated on lovely free trade iced coffee from a shop crawling with hipsters. Then I went back and worked and giggled with my coworkers before coming home and making party snacks with the hubs. We're hosting a (Mr. made) beer tasting tomorrow night and I'm in charge of appetizers!

Drag Queen Funeral

So since I opened this page to blog, I've watched the nightly news, gotten peed on by my adorable little dog, yelled a lot, reprimanded the cute little dog, cleaned and vacuumed the whole couch, washed my hands and leg, started laundry, helped Peter with dinner (meaning I ate some of the cheese he shredded), walked the dog, and recovered the couch. Needless to say its been busy around the Compton house in the last hour.

Today at work it was decided this outfit would be appropriate for a drag queens funeral, well mostly the sparkly black top, but I think for the right Drag Queen, the whole thing would be just fine. We all know I love leopard and nothing compliments leopard like a sequin top, and never is a sequin top more appropriate than a Thursday.

They're back

Today I wanted simple, I knew I was going to busy at the office, so a dress and a few pops of color it was. I've always avoided orange and blue together, I blame this on being a Saints fan growing up in the land of blue and orange Broncos fans. However, the combination of rust and teal I am really liking, who knows maybe by the end of summer I'll be in neon orange and electric blue.

Did you notice whats back? My beloved boots! I managed to love them to the point that the heel fell off, so they spent last week at the shoe hospital. They've been re-heeled, re-soled, and reconditioned. The cobbler told me he had more pairs of this boot in the shop than any other, apparently I'm not the only one who loves these boots. As I left, he also told me he'd see me when I wore them out again, which I am sure he will.

Southwestern

This belt is the most southwestern themed item I have ever owned. Maybe its because I grew up in Colorado and there was a lot of super tacky southwestern everything, but I've never liked the leather, turquoise, silver thing. However, this belt may have changed my mind, at least in terms of subtle southwestern elements.

The thing I liked about this belt the most, was it made things simple. I love a good LBD and adding this belt made a dress I've worn a hundred times feel totally new. Mix the black with some brown, by adding my favorite boots and bag and bam! outfit done. Perfect for a busy work day and a delicious lunch hour, these boots were made for walking to the new burger place right by the office!

Keys

So remember my style craves post from Saturday? Well, I ended up at Target on Sunday and even though the website said the green skirt was only sold online, I saw it in the store and I also saw this purple one, which I ended up falling head over heels for and bringing home. Not only is it a great cut and fit, but its got these super cute little keys all over it, its whimsical yet professional and I love it! Its also one of maybe 3 purple things in my closet, yay for expanding my color palette.

It is cold in Texas. It wasn't even 35 degrees when we took these photos, the Mr. is a trouper for going out with me in the morning. I'm a lucky girl to have such a willing and helpful husband!

New Year, New Dress

Happy New Year! Now that the craziness of the holidays is over, I'm back to blogging and in fact have made it a goal of mine to be proactive on this blog this year, I get dressed every day so there is no reason I shouldn't have my husband photograph it!

Today was my first day back in the office after the holidays and I felt this called for a new dress. I love so many things about this dress, from its awesomely longhorn friendly color to the pattern, which is actually little feathers, when I saw it, I knew it needed to be my Christmas gift to myself.

I also love that I can pair any number of my belts, cardis, or boots with this dress. It makes it a super versatile piece which is nice, since you wouldn't normally think of burnt orange as "versatile."

It was very cold this morning, but thankfully, I had a lovely coat to wear once outfit photo time was over. Also, the scarf is from another very talented crafter in my family, my awesome sauce Granny Annie.

Pop!

I love a good pop of color, which is why I decided to rock the mustard tights today with the subdued tones of this lovely striped dress. I also did my fav stripes and leopard. The dress has some great 3/4 sleeves with smaller stripes, someday when its not freezing out, I'll show them to you. It was a busy day at the office, so simple and comfy is all I wanted, this seemed to fit the bill perfectly!

I felt very Joan from MadMen in this dress, it was tight but not too tight, and made my curves look great. I know you can't really tell from this particular styling, but its a great little dress and its warm, so I'm sure it will be back again soon.

Nothing like a little wool

It continues to be cold here in the Lone Star State, which is just fine with me! Cold means I can finally wear all the awesome winter things I got on insane super sale this summer. I know it was a little crazy to buy a wool skirt in July, but I did it and 5 months later it was perfect and super cute!

You see that infinity scarf? My Mama made it for me last Christmas. I found it today when I pulled out the wool coat and my goodness was I happy to see it! Not only is it super warm and an awesome color, its like getting a hug from my mom all day long and nothing is better than that.

My joyful face when I got to put my coat on!

Thief

I blatantly stole this outfit from a photo I saw on Pinterest. I loved the simple mix of black and brown and since I had all of this in my closet, it was a no brainer on a jam packed half work day. There is nothing better than an over sized cardi and leggings while furiously working on spreadsheets for 4 hours.

I have fallen into the fashion bloggers who hate winter* category, Peter and I now have to take my photos before work, which is far to early for me to be photographed. I apologize, in advance, for the puffy eyes and half awake smiles you'll be seeing over the next few months, and the look in the photo below, ugh, so not a morning person.

*winter in the sunrise/sunset time sense only, since it was 75 degrees today and that in no way equals actual winter.

Potluck!

Today to celebrate Thanksgiving my work hosted its annual Turkey Day Potluck, in my department we have over 100 people (they work all over campus) so it was a HUGE spread of deliciousness and I felt it necessary to dress the part to the best of my abilities!

Peter got me this dress for our first Christmas together and I love it. I only wear it in the winter months and since its sleeveless I can change it up with different sweaters and cardigans. Not only are the colors great, the pattern has little snails in it too, which just makes me smile.

Petunia got spayed on Tuesday and has since been sporting quite the Elizabethan style collar. She isn't too big of a fan of it, obviously, but I think she's pretty darn cute as a 16th century Queen.

Mustard Yellow Cardigan Club

So today at work one of my coworkers was in an identical cardigan, we decided that we were starting a club, for the cool kids that wear mustard yellow cardigan. Its a pretty awesome club, if you have a mustard yellow cardigan, you are invited to join.

I wore this dress for our engagement photos and am so excited I've found a way to make it work for the fall. I love the little flowers and I wasn't expecting the brown tights to work so well, but they did! Yay for making awesome pieces work year round!

Petunia update, she now weighs 6lbs, precious tiny pup pup.
