Potluck!

Today to celebrate Thanksgiving my work hosted its annual Turkey Day Potluck, in my department we have over 100 people (they work all over campus) so it was a HUGE spread of deliciousness and I felt it necessary to dress the part to the best of my abilities!

Peter got me this dress for our first Christmas together and I love it. I only wear it in the winter months and since its sleeveless I can change it up with different sweaters and cardigans. Not only are the colors great, the pattern has little snails in it too, which just makes me smile.

Petunia got spayed on Tuesday and has since been sporting quite the Elizabethan style collar. She isn't too big of a fan of it, obviously, but I think she's pretty darn cute as a 16th century Queen.

That one time I was in a Nirvana video

So this is the magic dress re-imagined for fall, I love this dress and am glad to make it work year round. However, once I got dressed and looked in the mirror I realized my look was very 1994, small flowers, heavy boots, large cardi, etc. I'll be honest, I kinda loved it.

Have I mentioned I love Target? This whole outfit is from Target and was maybe $60 total. These boots I got last weekend, and even though they are full price on the website, at my local store they were 50% off, it was like fated boot love, I know they aren't the best quality but for my purposes (indoor 95% of the time and sitting in my cubical) and the price they are perfect!

Mustard Yellow Cardigan Club

So today at work one of my coworkers was in an identical cardigan, we decided that we were starting a club, for the cool kids that wear mustard yellow cardigan. Its a pretty awesome club, if you have a mustard yellow cardigan, you are invited to join.

I wore this dress for our engagement photos and am so excited I've found a way to make it work for the fall. I love the little flowers and I wasn't expecting the brown tights to work so well, but they did! Yay for making awesome pieces work year round!

Petunia update, she now weighs 6lbs, precious tiny pup pup.

red skirt

So a while back I got this red skirt and it took me a long time to figure out how I wanted to style it. You see while I love red, I don't wear it very often, but I really love this skirt so I'm hoping to find many different ways to rock it this winter.

I fell in love with this shirt at Old Navy a few months ago but I thought it was a bit flimsy for the price so I walked away, but I stalked it online until it went on sale and I pounced. I love the little polka dots and it looks just as cute with jeans as it does dressed up a bit.

Bows, Stripes, and Puppy Sweaters

Are you on pinterest? If you aren't you should be, because its amazing. Anywho, I found this quote on there and it pretty much sums up exactly how I feel when I wear a pencil skirt.
"Your dresses should be tight enough to show you're a woman but loose enough to show you're a lady" - Edith Head

Nothing says woman and lady like lace bows and a pencil skirt! The red belt adds a nice little pop of color, which I think is important when there's so much black.

Petunia Jean is now following in my foot steps and has developed a taste for sweaters. She's a Texas lady through and through and when it gets below 60 degrees she insists on a sweater. So I've started a little collection of darling sweaters for the pup including this this precious plaid number.

Maxi

I had been thinking about trying the maxi skirt trend but when I saw this post by the lovely Sydney I knew that I had found just the right skirt to try out.

I decided to pair it with my two loves this season, leopard and rust (or burnt orange as we call it in Longhorn Land) This outfit felt relaxed and comfortable but looked really put together and kind of fancy. I think it certainly caught people off guard which is always fun.

Compton Style

So as I was drifting to sleep last night, I realized I forgot to update about the most important thing that happened in my blog absence and was really the main reason that I disappeared for so long.
I got married!!!

I guess I should rename the blog ComptonStyle, but I won't mostly because Valliant sounds cooler. Once I get the professional photos I'll do a little wedding day fashion post but for now I'll say that it was the best day of my life and the clothes just made it better.

To see the first professional photo check out the blog post by the AMAZING Photographers Skeen here! I can't wait to share more with you!
